An explanation for why Mikel Arteta got angry with Gabriel Martinelli during Arsenal’s loss to Liverpool on Thursday has been provided.
The Gunners would welcome Liverpool to the Emirates on Thursday evening for the second of two League Cup semi-final matches.
The first leg ended 0-0 but, on Thursday, Arsenal were outclassed and eventually succumbed to a 2-0 defeat thanks to two goals from Diogo Joto:

On the back of a disappointing loss that now means Arsenal are unable to win any silverware this season, football.london have explained why Arteta got angry with Martinelli, stating that Mikel Arteta could be seen throwing his arms in wild indignation as Martinelli was slow to press a loose throw-in taken by Andy Robertson just before half time.
Jurgen Klopp praises Martinelli
Though Arteta himself was seemingly not too pleased with the Brazilian on the day, Martinelli did receive praise from one manager.
Completely unprovoked, Jurgen Klopp, when asked a question about Chelsea post-match, would label Martinelli as an outstanding player:
“Martinelli by the way… everybody should remember that name. Outstanding player.”
Completely unprompted (he was asked about Chelsea in the final), Jurgen Klopp says: “Martinelli by the way… everybody should remember that name. Outstanding player.”

And it is easy to see why Klopp was quick to praise Martinelli as the 20-year-old has been one of Arsenal’s key players over the last few months, filling the void left by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang amid his disciplinary woes and AFCON trip.
